On the eve of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Maxim Tank, illustrations to the works of a famous Belarusan poet were presented in Minsk. In a week, the exhibition will go to Paris.
The exhibition, held at the National Library of Belarus on September 13, is part of the scaled project “Library” dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the National Library of Belarus. The exhibition is being held in the Year of the Book as to promote Belarusan literature, as well. The exposition has been presented in the town of Hlybokaye, Vitebsk Region, during the celebrations of the Belarusan Written Language Day. After that it has moved to Minsk, BelTA reports.
The exposition features about 60 graphic pictures of famous Belarusan artists, Lithuanian, Moldovan and Ukrainian artists. The first illustrations date back to 1957, having a distinctive narrative character, while illustrations made after the 1950s are of more symbolic nature.
The National Library of Belarus also presented the book “On stone, iron and gold”. The book features reminiscences and essays about Maxim Tank made by Yanka Bryl, Ivan Shamyakin, Vasily Zuyenok and many more. The book is part of the series “Life of Famous People”.
Maxim Tank (born 17.09.1912, Pilkovschina village, Myadel district, Minsk region, died 07.08.1995) was a prominent translator, philosopher and lyricist, a well-known public figure, from 1966 to 1990 he headed the Union of Writers of Belarus.
The major theme of Maxim Tank’s poetry, attracted by the richness and originality of the strophics, varied rhythm, expressiveness of intonation, is Homeland. His poetry was closely linked to the history of his country, reflected in legends and dreams of its people, its nature, also one of his native Narochansky district, and the mother tongue, with turning points on the burning problems of the Belarusan people.
