The official Minsk claimed that it considers Eastern Partnership Initiative to be an important format for dialogue and interaction with the EU.
On July 25 the negotiations between Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei and his Lithuanian counterpart Linas Linkevičius took place, during which the sides discussed a wide range of issues, concerning Belarus-Lithuania cooperation, informs the press service of the Belarusan Foreign Office.
Belarus is intended to develop bilateral interaction, first of all in the sphere of trade, investments, transport and transit.
The Foreign Ministers discussed the preparation for the next Belarus-Lithuania Economic Forum, which is to be held in Belarus this autumn.
The official Minsk underlined that it considers Eastern Partnership Initiative to be an important format for dialogue and interaction with the EU. At the same time, taking into account the situation in the region and multidirectional integration aspirations of the partner countries, this initiative needs to be reformatted in order to avoid discriminatory approach to its participants.
As “EuroBelarus” Information Service earlier reported, On July 24-25 Lithuania's Foreign Minister was on a two-day working visit to Belarus, during which he met with Belarus Prime Minister Mikhail Miasnikovich, Belarusian government, and the representatives of Belarusan political parties, civil society, and relatives of political prisoners.
Before his visit to Belarus Linas Linkevičius made an unexpected statement, saying that “it is time to reassess dialogue and relations” between Lithuania and Belarus.
He said Belarus would likely face economic tightening not only as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but also a Russian trade oil crisis that worsened this past winter.
