Minsk City Court rejects an appeal against district judge's refusal to order the release of director general of Russian potash company Uralkalij.
The hearing concerning the decision of the Minsk City Court took place on September 13 behind closed doors, reports BElaPAN. Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom, Dzmitry Harachka, Mr. Baumgertner's lawyer, said that he would file a fresh appeal against the ruling.
The lawyer added that he had met with his client the previous day. According to him, Mr. Baumgertner is in good health and has no complaints about his detention conditions. "We try to update him on developments in his case," said Mr. Harachka.
Mr. Baumgertner was arrested on August 26 as he was about to fly out of Minsk after a meeting with Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Miasnikovich.
Let us recall that Pavel Travulka, spokesman for the Investigative Committee of Belarussaid that Mr. Baumgertner was suspected of power abuse and so were more Russian executives who combined their Uralkalij jobs with high-ranking positions with BPC. A few days later, Belarusian authorities instituted criminal proceedings against Russian billionaire and Uralkalij's top shareholder Suleiman Kerimov.
He said Belarus would likely face economic tightening not only as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but also a Russian trade oil crisis that worsened this past winter.
