For the last two months there have been rumours that the History Faculty will be united with the Tourism Faculty. Some people say this is an attempt to get rid of politically unreliable historians.
History Faculty Dean Edmund Jarmusik confirms that the issue of uniting the two faculties is under consideration indeed, Euroradio reports. However, he sees nothing bad about this. "This is a natural re-organization of the educational process," Jarmusik says. "I don't think this is a reprisal or something like this. This is a normal process. There were times when the Soviet republics were united, and then they fell apart. Europe created the European Union”.
Probably, the uniting of the faculties will be followed by staff reduction. Thus, the university has an opportunity to finally get rid of those politically unreliable historians who still work there.
It is unknown so far whether there will be any staff reduction after the uniting of the two faculties.
Let us recall that several lecturers were fired from the History and Sociology Faculty at Hrodna University within the last year, due to various reasons: politically unreliable historian Viachaslau Shved and one of the authors of the "Learning Hrodna" book Andrei Charniakevich.
