Polish ambassador Leszek Szerepka stated that Poland is ready for mutual cancellation of visa regime.
"We support the idea of maximum simplification of the visa regime and even a visa-free regime. We would like to abolish the visa regime with Belarus,” stated Leszek Szerepka during the press-conference in Minsk on November 14. The Polish diplomat recalled that before the Shengen Agreement Belarus and Poland had a visa-free regime, which had a positive impact on the countries’ mutual relations.
Certain steps have to be made by Belarus for it, the ambassador said. Szerepka hopes that the two states will be able to organize consultations concerning this issue.
Poland gave about 350 Schengen visas to Belarusians last year and the number will reach 360 thousands this year, he said.
Warsaw considers Belarus to be “a promising partner in the Eastern Partnership”. “We will make everything to improve Belarus-EU relations”, interfax.by quotes Leszek Szerepka.
He said Belarus would likely face economic tightening not only as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but also a Russian trade oil crisis that worsened this past winter.
