The Dushanbe
summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States will back the essence of
Belarus’ view on the future CIS reform. The statement was made by Vadim Popov,
Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, on
October 4.
It is
premature to abandon hopes for the Commonwealth. It can still do a lot of
useful things for each CIS member-state, remarked Vadim Popov.
The Speaker
reminded, the International Affairs and CIS Relations Commission of the House
of Representatives of the National Assembly had considered the draft CIS Future
Reform Concept and the plan of actions designed to implement the Concept. “All
members of the commission agreed the future CIS reform should become a
significant step in developing the effective functioning of the Commonwealth,”
said Vadim Popov.
The
reformation concept makes no revolutionary proposals, however, it is meant to
give a no-nonsense legal basis for interstate relations within the CIS
framework, said the official
