Foreigners interest in Belarusian sanatoriums increased
Wednesday, 06 August 2008
Belarusian sanatoriums are exceptionally popular with foreign tourists visiting Belarus. During the first half of 2008 31.5 thousand citizens of other states have improved their health there and the majority of them were Russians (about 60-70%). Last year the figure was 17.8 thousand. Latvians, Lithuanians, Germans and Poles are also frequent visitors to these recuperation facilities.

The Ministry of Transport and Tourism provided data that since the beginning of this year the volume of rendered tourist-excursion services increased by 50.7% in our country.

Foreign tourists during this time period have spent 30.9 million USD on tourist services, which is 14.3 million USD more in comparable prices over the same period last year (increased up to 185.6%). Belarusians themselves benefited 70.8 billion Br from tourism, which is 150.7% higher than the relevant data in 2007.

According to experts of the National Agency for Tourism, a significant role in attracting foreign tourists to Belarus plays annual participation of Belarusian tourist companies in international exhibitions, where Belarus is presented as an attractive tourist destination.

The increased number of holidaymakers is also due to introduction of tourist routes around the country to tourist sights, including routs for those holiday makers who stay in hotels and resort facilities. Currently there are 677 tourist-tour routes operating in the country, out of them there are 108 in the Minsk region - 108, 48 in Grodno and 52 in Minsk.

Moreover, experts note that foreigners who come to Belarus on business also enjoy guided tour services. Such memorials as "Khatyn", "Brest Fortress", a museum of ancient folk crafts "Dudutki" as well as national parks attract their attention.
