Foreign Ministers of the EU countries will discuss the EU's policy towards Belarus

According to the press service of the French
presidency of the EU, at a meeting to be held on September 15-16 ministers will
consider relations with the Balkan countries, Georgia, Zimbabwe and Somalia, as
well as the continuing Doha round
of negotiations with the World Trade Organization on liberalizing world trade.
It
seems that a miracle has occurred: official sources have
for several days been reporting that assorted meetings between the higher ranks
of the Belarusian government and counterparts from neighbouring EU states have
either taken place or are being planned. Although the information available
regarding official and informal negotiations is still very scanty, it is
obvious that the ice has been broken.

Martynau invited to Paris for meeting with EU foreign ministers

frames of a session of 27 EU foreign ministers.

By postponing adoption of the decision on participation or
non-participation in the “parliamentary elections”, the oppositional
parties offered the authorities “to improve the situation” and to man
up the district elections commissions with oppositionists before
September 8.

after the authorities there released political prisoners and refused to respond
to the demand of Moscow to
recognize the independence of the rebellous Georgian autonomous regions -

OSCE observers unveil first interim report on parliamentary elections

There is “very little evidence” that an election is underway in
Belarus, the observation mission deployed in the country by the OSCE
Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights says in its first
interim report on the conduct of Belarus’ parliamentary elections, BelaPAN said.
The EU thinks about easing up sanctions against Belarus

The issue was
discussed yesterday in L’Avignon where the meeting of the Heads of Foreign Ministries
of the 27 EU Member States was taking place for the second day in a row.
At a working meeting of the Prime Ministers of Belarus and Lithuania they
discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation, including in the areas of
energy, transport and transit. The head of the Lithuanian Cabinet Gediminas
Kirkilas called the meeting in Druskininkai "very friendly".
