WCVA
is the voice of the voluntary sector in Wales. We represent and campaign
for voluntary organisations, volunteers and communities.WCVA as the national umbrella body for NGOs in Wales and is interested in supporting the
development of local, regional and national NGOs.
Area of work include
Supporting working relationships between the voluntary sector, and
government and public bodies.
Supporting and promoting the work of voluntary and community groups at
national and local level.
Supporting and promoting volunteering and the interests of volunteers.
Promoting community cohesion and inclusion and build social capital.
Develop and support new initiatives.
Enhance resources available to the voluntary sector.
WCVA has experience in training and skills
WCVA worked alongside WCVA’s sister councils in England, Scotland and Northern
Ireland to deliver a work
programme to support staff, trustees and volunteers across Wales. The Hub’s role is to
help voluntary organisations to promote skills development and good employment
practice, in order to support the
recruitment, retention and development of staff, volunteers, trustees and board
or committee members in the voluntary sector.
WCVA has supported the development of a number
of new initiatives in the year
Through the
Communities First Trust Fund and Social Risk Scheme, awarding grants totalling
almost £4m to over 1,400 groups for projects that build social capital.
Through the
Labour Market initiative, supporting 30 social enterprises that provided
employment for over 1,300 economically inactive people, of whom over 800 went
into long-term employment.
Supporting the
development of Advocacy Wales as a new umbrella body for independent advocacy
providers.
The first Wales voluntary
sector funding conference, in Llandrindod Wells. The conference was a sell-out
and was re-run in Cardiff in February
2006 to a capacity audience of 250 delegates.
Managing the
Advice Training Network, providing European funding to enable advice services
to recruit and train 354 volunteers.
Continuing to
develop the work of the Equalities and Human Rights Coalition, and facilitating
its response to the proposed Commission for Equality and Human Rights.
Conferences for
residents of Communities
The Skills for
Regeneration project, providing opportunities for people from Communities First
areas to train as community workers.
Establishing
the Communities Investment Fund, on behalf of the Communities
First Support Network, as a new source of grants and
loans for social enterprises and voluntary and community groups in Communities
First areas.
